Plastic vs glass vials

Is there a reason pharm's use glass over plastic? I see bact water in plastic. Yes, I've broken a vial and thank god it was down to the last dose or two which made me start to wonder if glass has some property that plastic does not.

Glass is more easily sterilized, less porous, non-reactive, and airtight. There are many types of plastic some of which do not contain BPA but often there is an elasticizer that can leach in to the product. Acidic and oil based products for consumption are not as often packaged in plastic for this reason. If a pharma packs something in plastic then they've likely determined that's its safe to do so. Still, I'd always choose glass if there was a choice.
