Vitamin MK-7 Not The Same Response As Regular Vitamin K2

Recently I switched from vitamin K2 (brand Solgar) that I have been taking for over two months to Vitamin K2 MK-7 (brand Piping Rock, cheap brand) and started having issues right away. I started having burning in my throat, lungs, nose which caused excessive coughing which I thought was just me catching a virus, only I never get sick.

This happens at any dose. I connected the dots and realized my issues started when I started taking the vitamin MK-7, which has longer half-life than regular vitamin K2.

I just thought I would put this out there for anyone else having issues that may be related to taking vitamin K MK-7.

Look into MK4

AI Overview
Vitamin K2 MK-4 and MK-7 are both forms of vitamin K2 that differ in their bioavailability, half-life, and potential health benefits:

  • Bioavailability
MK-7 is more bioavailable than MK-4, and can be detected in the blood at nutritional levels.

  • Half-life
MK-4 has a short half-life and quickly disappears from the bloodstream, while MK-7 has a longer half-life and can remain in the body for up to 72 hours.

    • Health benefits
MK-7 may be more effective than MK-4 at reducing cardiovascular risk and promoting bone health. MK-4 may be beneficial for immediate physiological needs, and may help inhibit the formation of cholesterol-induced arterial plaques.
    • Dosing
Because MK-7 has a longer half-life, it can be taken once a day, while MK-4 may need to be taken more frequently.
    • Side effects
Side effects of vitamin K2 MK-7 may include decreased appetite, difficulty breathing, muscle stiffness, and yellow eyes or skin. Side effects of vitamin MK4 may include infections, bruising, inflammation, rashes, and blood clots.
Some experts recommend taking both MK-4 and MK-7 for a comprehensive approach to health.

AI Overview
Vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 are both important nutrients for the body, but they have different chemical structures, sources, and biological roles:

  • Chemical structure
Vitamin K1 has a shorter chain than vitamin K2, which has isoprenoid side chains in addition to a phytyl side chain.

  • Sources
Vitamin K1 is found in leafy green vegetables, fruits, and plant chlorophylls, while vitamin K2 is found in fermented foods, meat, and dairy products.

    • Biological roles
Vitamin K1 is primarily involved in blood coagulation, while vitamin K2 helps with bone and heart health. Vitamin K2 also prevents calcium from depositing in soft tissues, and helps transport calcium to bones and teeth.
    • Absorption
Vitamin K2 is absorbed more slowly than vitamin K1, and some forms of vitamin K2 may stay in the blood longer.
    • Storage
Vitamin K1 accumulates in the liver, heart, and pancreas, while vitamin K2 occurs in high concentrations in the brain and kidneys.
    • Supplements
The two forms of vitamin K2 most often used in supplements are MK-4 and MK-7.
To maintain good health, you should get adequate amounts of both vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 through your diet.
