Could progesterone use crash estrogen or cause joint pain?

It’s debatable. I’ve read that it can compete with the estrogen receptor, not actually lower it. So in theory it can mitigate some of the effects of estrogen, both good and bad.
Would this be similar to how DHT competes with the e2 receptor? If so, any idea what happens if progesterone or DHT drops lower in the day would e2 recognize the receptor is no longer taken by DHT/e2 and automatically fill in those receptors?

Progesterone reduces estrogenic activity, but not by this mechanism; it does not compete at the estrogen receptors. The relative binding affinity is at least six orders of magnitude off of estradiol. Progesterone does have some aromatase inhibiting ability. And acting through the progesterone receptor, progesterone downregulates estrogen receptors.
