I was reading this one article and it says not to take your thyroid meds before testing.

From defy's pre lab emails:

"Your LabCorp requisition is attached.
Instructions for labs: Please print the attached form and take into any LabCorp location along with a photo ID (This form is only accepted at LabCorp). You MUST present the attached order form to have the lab tests completed. If the lab order form is not presented to LabCorp at the time of your appointment, there is a chance you will be billed again by LabCorp.
**It is recommended that you stay hydrated and fast for at least 8 hours prior to the blood draw, as this will provide a more accurate reading of certain lab tests.
**Please be sure to have your labs drawn BEFORE your next testosterone injection or AFTER your hormone cream application that day (unless otherwise instructed by the medical staff.)

** If you are on thyroid treatment, remember to take your dose as scheduled the morning of the lab draw BEFORE having labs drawn.

I can echo Vince's sentiments............getting my thyroid back to optimal has been a huge difference, especially free T3 and getting RT3 down.
I've been on TRT for 3 years now but started feeling tired, sluggish all the time and workouts weren't what they used to be (muscle weakness, etc...).
Night and day difference getting thyroid treated to be honest both in the gym and life in general.
For any guys not feeling their best already on TRT, this would be one of the 1st areas I'd attack, assuming you already have a good protocol from a good doc.

Have been supplementing with both for over 7 years now. It has not improved my hypothyroidism, my hope is it keeps it from getting worse.

Sean, I know defy medical will treat the thyroid, does prime body do the same?

The info in the article seems reasonable and well condidered. However, My doctor wants something different. I am going to continue to follow his instructions when I have blood drawn.

I agree since they are treating your thyroid disease I would follow their lab testing protocol. I did send the information to defy medical hoping they will respond.

The instructions in that email are per Dr. Saya's instructions, so I can't make any recommendations that are different than that.

What I explain is that it's more important that the patient knows when their labs were taken relative to their medications, so just having that information allows our providers to be able to take into account what the results mean.

The article is well written and thought out...the only problem is the two lab variables she focuses on - TSH and FT4 - pale in comparison to FT3 which is the most important variable from a clinical perspective. TSH is *almost* inconsequential when on thyroid treatment (though it is the sole gauge used by many) and FT4 levels are evaluated in the context of timing of labs in relation to thyroid med administration.

Free T3 levels are also affected by a recent dose of T3 containing medications. T3 levels increase after the dose is given, and hit a peak at four hours after the dose.This means that if you were to take your thyroid medication before getting your thyroid function tests done, your lab results might show that you are overdosed, even when you may be accurately dosed, or they may show your labs to be within normal limits when you may be truly under-dosed.Thus, it is usually best to postpone your combination medication until after you get your lab tests done. I recommend getting your thyroid function tests done first thing in the morning, bringing your medications with you, and taking them right after you have your thyroid function tests to ensure that you get accurate test results.

you guys mention thyroid frequently especially Vince.
1) what symptom did you notice most regarding your hypothyroid? What led you to think you had an issue other than blood work?
2) what did you notice most AFTER starting thyroid meds and how long did it take to see an actual positive effect?
3) any side effects?
4) can taking thyroid raise T levels at all?
Im starting to wonder if i have thyroid issues.

Do some research.
I do like Tiredthyroid as a starting point.

We must not forget that thyroid meds are notorious for having finicky absorption - the adequacy of which can be gleaned from getting labs after taking. What it all boils down to, however, is having a clinician with enough knowledge AND experience to appropriately take the timing of administration, symptoms, and all other factors into consideration when evaluating the results.

Concur whole heartedly.
BUT one needs to have a good understanding of correct basic protocols and testing to gage if your PC has a clue.
If no "Clue", then find one that does.
You are an exception that clearly understands.
There are a lot more out there that have no clue, and do more harm than good.
