Hey Excel,
Im a 33 year old male on txt--250mg Test C a week. I'm a fraternal twin (male/female pair) and have suffered from very low free test and very high estrogen since I was a teenager. I've long had low t symptoms including severe depression, anxiety, poor erection quality, and no libido despite being otherwise active and healthy. I was injured in a car accident 18 months ago and have had a very difficult time healing despite tons of pt. My physician suggested trying TRT to improve muscle growth and healing. After being on test for a few months, I'm the happiest i've ever been and my injury has improved significantly.
A few months ago I noticed a very slight thinning at the front of my hairline. I have tons of hair, and all my male relatives have kept a full head of hair well into their 50s. I had no sign of thinning or MPB before taking test. To combat this side effect, my physician put me on 1.25mg of finasteride daily. Two months later I'm shedding precipitously... like 50-100 hairs in my hands when i wash my hair. I've heard of finasteride shedding, but intuitively find it a bit odd for someone with a low propensity for MPB to be so reactive to this medicine.
Around the same time the shedding started, my physician tested me to have extremely high e2. My anastrozole dose was increased from .5mg/week to 1mg/week and eventually .5mg EOD. This solved my symptoms of holding water weight and having really sensitive nipples, but we took it too far and crashed my estrogen. At this anastrozole dose I was having difficulty getting erect and had very diminished sex drive. I'm now taking anastrozole at .5mg every 3 days, and while my erectile health has improved my extreme hair shedding continues.
I'm unsure about where to go from here. My physician wants me to see a dermatologist who has a very long wait, and I haven't found any concrete data showing that low estrogen might cause extreme hair shedding in men. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. After a month of this my hair is getting thin but I'm scared to stop taking finasteride or change my TRT protocol because I'm just not informed enough about these different variables.

Please post your lab results and the lab ranges, can't have a meaningful conversation any other way but by most accounts 250mg/W of Cyp is far too heavy a dose, you're most lilely being given an Estrogen test that is meant for females, not males. And Finasteride basically chemically neuters males. So lots of problems here.

post finasteride syndrome

Are you sure you have high estradiol levels, low levels are very dangerous. Did you get the right estradiol test the sensitive one for men? Estradiol Sensitive, LC/MS/MS assay.

Apparently your doctor isn't aware of Post Finasteride Syndrome, get off this poison! Also you need to locate a doctor that isn't TRT ignorant, your TRT protocol is terrible. You will find more success injecting testosterone multiple times per week. Your SHBG will determine which injection frequency is right for you.

The Post-Finasteride Syndrome is a serious state of permanent sexual, mental, and physical side effects which do not resolve after quitting the drug, most often accompanied by an acquired form of secondary hypogonadism and post-drug loss of androgenic action, which remains highly resistant to hormonal treatments aimed at restoring Testosterone/DHT’s effects in the male body to pre-drug virility levels. It is also surmised by the few specialists in the medical field that a type of receptor or “brain damage” has occurred. As often seen with such damage, recovery is very slow or now questioned whether possible at all. Needless to say, men suffering from PFS are plagued with any physical, mental, and emotional symptoms that have led to long term depression, marital problems and divorce, and now several reports cases of suicide.

Beyond Testosterone Book by Nelson Vergel
I see a lot of people when writing about Finasteride that they jump to conclusions about Post Finasteride syndrome without looking at the actual medical research studies and the data. A very small amount of people taking the medications have these problems after stopping them and the media and an organization are spreading disinformation about this syndrome without the clinical research data backing up their claims. I went off finasteride and had no problems what so ever. Please read the research first before making your decision. Don't believe everything you read in these postings. Chris
