On March 1, 2023, DEA, in concert with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), issued notices of proposed rulemakings (NPRM) to allow for prescribing of certain controlled medications via telemedicine without an in-person medical evaluation of the patient under circumstances that are consistent with public health, safety, and effective controls against diversion. On May 9, DEA and HHS announced the extension of COVID-19 telemedicine flexibilities for an additional six months while considering the more than 38,000 comments from the public on the NPRMs.

Tomorrow is the day, havent heard any news on this

Who wants to put some money down? We won as no way DEA will want to limit trans affirming care heading into election year. Makes no sense.

What a somewhat fitting end to all this nonsense over last 30 years. Nelson you are one patient and long suffering human being. Still more to go but this will be a little progress on the matter.

"Let people be who they want to be."

Good election slogan for FJB now that he has dementia anyway. We can still forgive him if he does something correct for once.
they could set exceptions for people who consider themselves trans, could they not? I’m pretty sure that Clomid is approved for women but not men

Anyone got the link to the virtual meeting?

Have not seen link shared.

Edit:

Here it is...

On September 12 and 13, 2023, DEA will host public listening sessions to receive comments from healthcare practitioners, experts, advocates, patients, and other members of the public to inform DEA’s regulations on prescribing controlled substances via telemedicine.

The listening sessions will be livestreamed with virtual participation available. A transcript of the listening sessions will be made available following the event. All comments and presentations will become part of the official record for the purposes of rulemaking.

DEA received more than 180 requests to present at the Telemedicine Listening Sessions scheduled for September 12 and 13, 2023. DEA thanks the applicants and members of the public for their interest in these rules and their willingness to provide comment. Because of time limitations, DEA has selected a portion of the applicants to present during the listening sessions, consistent with the criteria set forth in the notice. DEA welcomes all feedback on its proposed rules and will have another comment period this fall for written comments before the telemedicine rules are finalized.

Some comments, live comments, etc...

First presenters: noble message but covering a lot of ground for 10 min. Pretty sure they will run out of time. Tele-Psychiatry.

Interesting to see message from other prescribers outside the androgen community.
Much less work for DEA if they remove androgens from controlled list.

Second presenter: psychiatry
Excellent points. post covid access to psych meds is critical and access to care is not equitable.

question about how kid's address is verified. Pretty funny. We have enough fentanyl/carfentanil crossing border each day to eliminate all human beings on plant earth. However, DEA concerned with kid's ritalin Rx being diverted.

3rd presenter: end of life pain for terminally ill.

4th presenter: telemedicine rep
Excellent points! Smart dude. DEA operating in a 1970s paradigm. People will go to the UG. Sad. I want this dude presenting for my team. Kudos. Clear and concise.

5th presenter: Johns Hopkins telemedicine/psychiatry
Similar points to 4th presenter.

6th/7th presenters: telemedicine / mental health

Morning session concludes. Morning was all mental health disorders and OUD (Buprenorphine - StatPearls - NCBI Bookshelf).
