Selegeline and Life Insurance

I recently applied for life insurance as my prior policy expired. I had the typical medical exam and the company ran a Milliman report which lists all medications that have been prescribed in recent years. I was notified by the agent that the company wants to rate me up do to Parkinsons medication. I explained that I do not have Parkinsons, provided ample documentation of its anti-aging benefits and offered to have my doctor write a letter stating that I do not have Parkinsons. Long story short, they won't budge.

I have prescription for 5mg. Perhaps I was better off buying it anonymously from my former supplier?

So now I am looking at other companies. This is just a heads up for anyone with a prescription.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post this. I had never even heard of a "Milliman report" before now. What a creepy operation. A credit reporting agency for prescriptions. Yet another intrusion into our personal medical affairs made easier with "electronic medical records," which, to me, are nothing more than a means to post more of our most private and personal information on the electronic equivalent of a bathroom wall. Yecch. I'm too old (and cranky) to want or need life insurance at this point, but I'm glad to have learned something new today, and I'm equally glad that my personal doctor still writes things down in longhand.

Makes me wonder, though: Do the likes of Empower/Defy report to these people?

I am also old and cranky, but I still have need for life insurance as my wife is younger (and hotter) ;). I have been a health nut and gym rat all my life, so I am still in very good shape. That is what is so frustrating about this, it's actually a plus for them that I take selegeline...

But yes, there has been an information gathering agency for years that is used by insurance companies, and perhaps other nefarious entities:

Doctors are required to keep records and they are submitted to the MIB. Any prescription written by anyone is also documented and stored.

I buy a lot of supplements, medications and "other" items from other sources that are not tracked. I just wanted to have a script for selegeline for the convenience. I regret that decision.

FWIW I dealt with a similar situation last year. I ended up talking with a life insurance *broker* (not agent), who was more comfortable dealing with 'special cases' -- i.e. people with conditions/medications that are more difficult to underwrite.

She knew right away which companies/underwriters would be best for my conditions and would be most likely to give me a favorable rating.

I was previously given ridiculously high rates from a couple of companies I applied for on my own. However, through her, I was given an amazing rate. Sort of unbelievable, and with Prudential, which is a very healthy large insurer. I then used the very good rating to negotiate with another company I had applied with as a backup, and they changed my rating from a less favorable category to a more favorable one (but not the best possible category). I ended up buying two policies, one larger and one smaller to meet my needs.

I also was extremely strategic in everything I did leading up to the applications and exams, due to high cholesterol, high blood pressure (neither documented in medical records yet), various medications, etc. I answered the questions carefully being I know their technocratic algorithms would flag if I said the wrong thing. i.e. I use nicotine gum periodically but always answered no to nicotine usage. The spirit of what they were getting at is if I was a smoker / chronic high user, and I felt ethically OK saying i was not a user even if it is a bit gray.

I am on carnivore diet so I had to heavily manipulate my dietary pattern for a period of time to get various labs in normal range i.e. BUN and liver enzymes. Tested on my own several times off the record (through Defy and/or privateMDlabs). Used various cholesterol lowering meds for a short time. Used cialis and an ARB for blood pressure the day prior and day of (all of these meds except cialis gray market so no script). I'm borderline on BP but wanted to be sure it was well within normal, plus those meds make me feel like shit.

side question: how do they know what you are prescribed and can you get the same information? i got denied in the past cause i forgot to list shit, i genuinely forgot that i had rx'ed. i am honestly thinking switching 100% to UGL/INDIA at this point. with the exception for telmisartan/cialis via cuban. not only is it much cheaper (except those 2), but insurance companies can suck my dick then.
