Don't know how common it is, but the same thing happened to me. Although in my case my TRT doc made me get a urologist consult when my PSA rose above 4.0. In my experience urologists are very quick to suggest a biopsy - I elected to get a prostate MRI instead and that satisfied my TRT doc.I had my pre treatment labs done and my doc won't treat until I get a urology consultation.
