Morning wood but no daytime wood. Does this shed any light on what's going on with me?

I've noticed this when I was having ED problems before starting TRT and almost every time when I have problems while on TRT. There have been times on TRT when my levels were way off and I didn't even get morning wood, but most of the time when my levels are good or close to it I get great morning wood, and feel good mentally, but then get poor or no erections during the day.

I'll have solid erections that sometimes wake me up at night, and in the morning right after I wake up, but they go away quickly after I wake up, and then don't want to come back again when I need them during the day. Or if they do come back they're not nearly as solid as they were while sleeping. This has been fairly consistent during my entire time on TRT.

I'm wondering what this means in terms of what's causing me to have ED problems during the day. What's different while I'm asleep vs. while I'm awake? Does this help solve the puzzle and maybe point me in the direction of a way to fix it?

It sounds like your plumbing is working, but you may want to look into the mental side of ED. Psychologically, ED can be a self-fulfilling prophecy. In other words, worrying about ED can cause ED. Performance anxiety can lead to performance failure.

In addition, if you are under stress at work or in your relationships (even non-romantic relationships) that stress can hinder your ability to maintain your erection.

I know that's the standard advice, but I don't think it's the case here. When on Cialis and dialed in on TRT perfectly things work well during the day.

Does anyone know of any physiological reason that I'd get consistent, good nocturnal and morning wood but not function well during the day?

Are you saying that you can't get it up during daylight hours even with stimulation...? Im just curious to what context exactly your having problems.

No idea. I've never had it tested. Is cortisol something that could cause daytime ED while still having morning erections?

"ED is thought to occur in patients with high levels of cortisol because of the relations between cortisol and stress. Cortisol may thus become a useful index for the evaluation of sexual function.'

Correct. Depending on what my T and E2 levels are at the time I either can't get it up at all during the day, or can only get it halfway or so and then lose it quickly. During these same times I wake up at night with rock hard erections but they go away quickly once I'm fully awake.

I have to think it's mental-stress-anxiety because you get them sleeping and lose them fast when waking up. Seems like your brain relaxed and things work right but then as soon as you wake you renter a different state. I know for me, of nighttime and morning erectons happen, my hormones are good.

This is pretty much my experience on TRT as well. I get very solid wood during REM sleep but upon waking it fades quickly and is never near as good during the day. I have had my cortisol checked (4-tube test) a few times and its always within the normal ranges. I know this info does not help, but at least you know that "it is not just you."

I am also in the same situation while on trt.
morning wood. than no wood on daytime, regardless of state of mind, I mean it, it is not psycological, I am not on stress at all.
prescribed 2pump androgel/day 16.2mg
results :
TESTOSTERONE 5.19 ( 2.50 - 8.40 ) ng/ml
free testo 11 pg/mL (6.1-25.7)
estradiol 29 pg/mLl (9-62)
why?
please anybody

From personal experience, when my E2 is low (assuming T and FT are good), I get morning wood, but nothing after that, and low libido

Nocturnal, or tumescent, erections at night are for the health of the penis and are not due to sexual desire or libido. You can get these and still have problems during the day. While I am not familiar enough with the role of cortisol, I can tell you that anxiety and negative self talk, fatigue, and interpersonal issues can sabotage daytime erections. Think about it. At night you are not thinking, judging, or evaluating so you are relaxed and erections can happen. Also, if you have a partner then she or he plays a role in arousing you. If the relationship is good, then you work together to arouse each other. If the desire and the erections you are talking about are not from a partner but fantasy then it is not going to happen as much, as masturbation can get old and stale. A big part of sex is the element of mystery and surprise that you get from a partner that creates positive sexual energy and arousal. I have to wonder how many guys who have erection problems are overly focused on getting it up at the expense of the total experience of sex and love making. My guess is that you are fine and it’s a mental thing. Relax, get a good partner, build a relationship and some sexual energy and enjoy your sexuality.

I also have this problem now and then! But my bloodwork always shows cortisol above range or top range. And im pretty good in overthinking it way to much if it will work or not

Very unique and interesting perspective. Thanks

Vince is correct. Keep your expectations realistic and you might realize you don't have a problem. Just because you keep your T high doesn't mean you will be walking around getting hard-ons all day. As long as it works when its supposed to is the only thing that matters. The sooner you get out of your own head about this, the sooner you relax, and the better things will be.

I've noticed that the less neurotic I am about my penis the better it works.
