Try levothyroxine for suspected subclinical hypothyroidism and brain fog

Good morning, having a TSH always tending to high , averaging 3.50 or 4 MicrUi/ML I am thinking of trying lavo-thyroxine and see if it solves my mental fog accompanied by confusion and poor concentration.
I was thinking of something like 25 micrograms to start , does anyone have experience? Thanks

Using t3 (6mcg twice daily) will likely alleviate your symptoms short-term but try finding the root cause of your symptoms which unfortunately could be many....
too much e2, too little dht, too little dhea, too much stress, overtraining, depression etc

I recommend measuring ft3 and ft4. Supplement with iodine and selenium before adding thyroid hormones.

Hi thank you for your reply .
My e2 and dht were quite good in the last examinations .
The dhea was also ok .

I am 38 years old and these are the values :
Dht 579.26 pg/mL 250 - 990
Estradiol 22.6 pg/mL 0.0 - 39.8
Dhea-S 188.1 ug/dL 34.5 - 568.
Just cortisol it so High :
23.92 > ug/dL 5.27 - 22.45

I try take thyrosine, zinc, selenium and iodine two months but dont work for me .

Check your gut and digestion. Many with "brain fog" have some kind of ongoing intestinal infection like H Pylori or have digestion problems (gluten sensitivity, low stomach acid, low pancreatic enzymes etc). As said above, if you don't address the actual problem, you will be just covering up symptoms with thyroid medications.

Hi and thank you for your response. I've been trying the vertical diet (and therefore low FODMAP) for a few days now, and from tomorrow I'll also eliminate supplements except for probiotics, so I can assess. I've also come to the conclusion that everything is about digestion. Do you have any other advice to give me on this? Thank you."

You should eat bread/pasta/gluten before the test so that it can detect a gluten sensitivity if you have one. If you have gluten sensitivity that gives you "brain fog" (it makes me very sleepy even after minimal gluten/gliadin) but you don't eat gluten foods before the test, it may not detect it.

I had already taken the test for H. pylori and it was negative. I also did the test for celiac disease with a blood draw and it was negative. The symptoms are consistent with either a gluten intolerance, histamine excess, or SIBO due to bacterial overgrowth. One of these three is the solution to my brain fog. I've already started excluding gluten, and I'll be following a vertical diet consisting of: basmati rice, red meat or chicken breast, organic olive oil, organic eggs, almonds, bananas, oranges, and kiwis for my vitamins. I'll try to stick to this diet for at least three weeks

What people don't know is that many tests that you do at your doctor's office are not actually accurate. Do NOT trust any single test. That's why they are called "tests".

I am currently "negative" on SEVERAL stool antigen tests for H Pylori but positive on GI-MAP (which is a way more sensitive stool PCR test). The stool PCR test is the most sensitive for H Pylori and you should wait to see if it will detect any bacteria. You are negative, only if it shows no count.

Also, I did a celiac blood test at my doctor's office which was negative, but the gliadin test which is part of GI-MAP clearly showed I am reacting to gluten, and I really get sleepy after I eat anything with wheat. So start eating gluten before the GI-MAP. If you have sensitivity, the test will detect it. If you don't eat gluten, your antibodies reacting to gliadin may get lower and the test will not show you anything.

Your idea is that gluten has changed due to genetically modified grains? Why are we seeing so many cases of celiac disease or gluten intolerance? How do you manage with beverages like espresso coffee, do you drink it or does it cause you discomfort?
