I'm off TRT right now, and am looking to increase my magnesium intake to hopefully help with slightly high blood pressure, workout recovery, and maybe get a little free T boost. Has anyone tried a product like below or should I take zinc and magnesium separately? If separate, what type and dosage of each is best for absorption?

The best magnesium supplement is magnesium bicarbonate, which can be made easily and cheaply with magnesium hydroxide and seltzer water.

Magnesium hydroxide is basically milk of magnesia correct? I was making mag bicarb for a little while. I agree that it’s the best magnesium supplement. Bicarb has a ton of health benefits in itself

Yes, but all of the commercial preparations have sodium hypochlorite (bleach) now. Best to go back to making your own, but with the powder instead… :)

I take 200 mg mag malate before a workout (lifting) or the same amount of either mag asporatate or taurate if it's a HIIT workout and my heart rate will get up around 160-170 (I'm 65 years old). Mag Glycinate is best before going to bed. Type "Thomas DeLauer types of magnesium" into a youtube search as I remember one of his described the types quite well, and he has a few on it.

Hi,
The best magnesium supplement is magnesium glycinate because it is the most effective form of magnesium and also leads to induce diarrhea and it is one of the safest magnesium for use.

Hi everyone;
Yes, you can take Magnesium and zinc together there is no big issue with taking both of them together. The best supplement to take magnesium and zinc together is ZMA.

The problem with most ZMA supplements is that most of them contain Magnesium aspartate which is related to aspartame. You're better off taking a separate zinc and magnesium supplements with the higher quality forms of each.

When considering magnesium supplements for sleep, several types are commonly recommended due to their specific properties and absorption rates. Here are the most notable types:

### Magnesium Glycinate
- **Properties**: Magnesium glycinate is magnesium bound to glycine, an amino acid known for its calming properties.
- **Benefits**: It is highly absorbable and less likely to cause gastrointestinal side effects compared to other forms. It helps relax the mind and body, potentially reducing stress and anxiety that can interfere with sleep[1][2][4][7][9][10][12][14].

### Magnesium Citrate
- **Properties**: Magnesium citrate is magnesium bound to citric acid.
- **Benefits**: It is well-absorbed and can have a mild laxative effect. It helps manage the stress hormone cortisol, reducing mental stimulation and promoting relaxation for better sleep[2][4][7][10][12][13].

### Magnesium L-Threonate
- **Properties**: This form is well-absorbed by the brain.
- **Benefits**: It may help with memory function and insomnia, particularly in older adults. It is often combined with L-theanine to enhance sleep quality by calming nerve cells[7][9][10][12].

### Magnesium Chloride
- **Properties**: Magnesium chloride is another well-absorbed form.
- **Benefits**: It supports mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, which often lead to poor sleep. It also acts as a natural muscle relaxer, increasing sleep time[7][10][12].

### Magnesium Taurate
- **Properties**: This form combines magnesium with taurine.
- **Benefits**: It is known for its sleep-inducing qualities and may also help with anxiety, migraines, heart health, and blood sugar regulation[7][9][10].

### Summary
- **Best Overall**: Magnesium glycinate is often considered the best for sleep due to its high absorbability and calming effects with minimal side effects.
- **Alternative Options**: Magnesium citrate and magnesium L-threonate are also highly recommended for their specific benefits in promoting relaxation and improving sleep quality.

Before starting any supplement, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider to ensure it is appropriate for your individual health needs and conditions.

One other option is magnesium bicarbonate.
Dr. William Davis explains how to make Magnesium Bicarbonate which is easily absorbed. Unfortunately almost all Milk of Magnesia now contains sodium hypochlorite. The solution is to buy magnesium hydroxide (I buy from Bulk Supplements) and just add the powder to seltzer water, shake frequently over a day until as much is dissolved as possible. The magnesium content is about 41% of the weight of the dissolved magnesium hydroxide divided by the volume. I go for about 5 grams of magnesium hydroxide per liter, but not all of that dissolves.
