Injection leakage

I inject in the ventro glute 2-4 times a week (depending how I split up my weekly dose). I often have a stream of the oil drip down my leg right after I pull the needle out. I tried the z-track and 90 degree angle method as I read on another source of the internet and it doesn't always work.

Suggestions?

I use a 25 gauge 5/8 and never have leakage... Maybe you could try an inch and a half?

I am using an inch and a half, 23 gauge. I stick it all the way in until there is no more needle. I even hold it in for like 10 seconds after injection is done.

Does this not happen to anyone else?

23 gauge is probably the issue... Try a smaller needle... Like 25 or 27.... I have never had oil drip out...

I will try the higher gauge needles and report back. If anybody has more input I'd love to know. Thank you all.

If you're tenses up during the injection that could explain it, are your muscles relaxed when injecting? I sometimes get a tiny drop after injection, it's nothing to worry about.

I love and use 27 gauge Easy Touch insulin syringe recommended by EM members and will never use anything else. I inject in shoulders, it's painless.

I have the same problem and I use a 27G 1/2" in my delts and when I went for a flew shot they gave it to me in my delts but it was a 1" long needle and no leaking. So I assume with the 1/2" needle I use (shallow IM) just isn't long enough. As many have said here it's only the skin prick that hurts and not the muscle, so I will get a longer needle next time round.

I also believe it's the needle size. I use grapeseed oil in my T and the 29g works great, cottonseed oil which I never used may need a bigger needle.

Try holding against the skin with your other hands two fingers when you pull the needle out. Then use your cotton swab and apply a little pressure to the area.

SOLVED!

This was the issue! I was standing and leaning with my ventro glute out just to make sure I was getting the muscle, which incidentally made it really tense and contracted. I tried today sitting down, ventro glute relaxed, z-track method - NO LEAKAGE!

SUCCESS! THANK YOU!

There you go, you're welcome. Sometimes even while sitting we may not even realise we're tensing up as it is natural to do so, we must be aware as we inject.
