Does having a high hematocrit mean your blood is more likely to clot? This study looks at a city where people with the highest hematocrit in the world live and work.
What if blood viscosity is increased but blood pressure is not affected? Are the blood vessels dilated to adapt to increased viscosity, or is some 'lubrication parameter' increased?Extra workload in compromised individuals is a real concern. Wish more (any) youtubers would cover plasma viscosity and whole blood viscosity.

In relatively healthy individual yes there is some room to adapt. What if blood viscosity is increased but blood pressure is not affected? Are the blood vessels dilated to adapt to increased viscosity, or is some 'lubrication parameter' increased?
I haven't officially measured it using testing that hasn't been adopted in any widespread sense. I use the poor man's test when I give blood. If it is coming into the tube like water and the phlebotomist compliments me, I am happy. They can tell you the stories of morbid patients that have blood viscosity that is really thick. Think about the wear and tear on the endothelium in that case. Your body may accommodate for a while but then?Did anyone here with high hematocrit from TRT measure their blood viscosity?
Short of a graduate fluid mechanics course, this thread is decent:lubrication parameter
Maybe it can accommodate easily within a particular range. I don't know.Your body may accommodate for a while but then?
That's a pleasant change here, someone who does not make absolute claims based on bits of a puzzle.Short of a graduate fluid mechanics course, this thread is decent:
Hematocrit drives Blood Viscosity- Does that Matter in Men on TRT? Effect of Altitude?
On this post see second video.
If I understand correctly then higher hematocrit does not mean more shear (wear and tear) to the endothelium.Think about the wear and tear on the endothelium in that case.
Correct. If blood vessel is compliant then it can compensate for higher viscosity. Without compliance (atheroschlerotic disease), absolutely more shear with higher viscosity which begets vicious cycle.does not mean
That is encouraging; two people can have the same HCT and dramatically different whole blood viscosity. Why? They have very different plasma viscosities (inflammation, disease). Hct doesn't tell the whole story of whole blood viscosity.Watched the videos, read the paper.
I can just report that my hematocrit is 54% and my resting BP is no more than 120/80.

This is fascinating work. thanks for posting. As one who nearly depleted my iron, it was a stupid decision I made because a primary care doc, not my HRT provider, convinced me I was going to have a stroke if my HCT didn't come down. He then sent me to hematologist, who was more knowledgeable, and didn't think I even needed to donate with an HCT at 51%. Bottom line, my HRT provider that I should have trusted, was telling me the truth all along and not to worry about it until it gets to at least 54%. Since I now have my apnea under control, it has never risen to that level.Does having a high hematocrit mean your blood is more likely to clot?
