Did SSRI's cause problems for your TRT protocol?

I've read about SSRIs have some effect on various sex hormones. I've started recently Zoloft for anxiety but can't help but feel like it's doing weird things to my hormones. This isn't my first time on Zoloft, I have been on it in the past but when prior to TRT. Is anyone here on TRT with and SSRI? Has it affected your bloodwork or experience of TRT in anyway?

Sure SSRI’s will lower testosterone, but for someone on TRT that can’t happen. SSRI’s can still cause side effects and diminish the benefits of TRT. Testosterone isn’t a drug, it’s a hormone, therefore there can be no interactions with other drugs.

So you’ll have the same side effects on an SSRI on TRT that you will have when not on hormone therapy, minus the reduction in testosterone.

Has it affected your bloodwork or experience of TRT in anyway?
This is not possible, because TRT is not a drug, it’s a bio-identical hormone.

SSRIs I have very common sexual side effects. The most common is anorgasmia and /or delayed ejaculation. It is extremely difficult to reach orgasm on these drugs. A much better alternative is Wellbutrin which can actually enhance libido and orgasm. There are no negative sexual side effects with Wellbutrin

Or switch to Wellbutrin which will have an opposite effect on your libido and ability to orgasm

People use to bash ssri and snri but in real TRT clinical world they are very very useful, and save lots of marriagges, enployments and even lives.

Today I was prescribed Escitalopram and I'm not that happy about it. I'm hesitant to start this. I asked for other medications that lift the mood but were denied based on the questions on their checklist. They said Wellbutrin was an option until I mentioned anxiety. How do you fight these doctors.

How do you fight these doctors.
Oh man, I can't even begin to tell you the struggles I've had with health providers. And it's hard to "fight" when many won't listen to you. Just yesterday I had another fruitless interaction where I might as well have been talking to empty air and thing is, I know I'm right and it's a hell of a frustrating process to get in with a new doctor. Little advice if you're going to take something for mood. Everyone reacts differently to them. There is no best one. It's trial and error but it's also a moving target. Your body adjusts constantly to them. Wellbutrin possibly can increase anxiety or mania if you're susceptible or bi-polar (you might not know it). If you have to take one, honestly I'd start with Prozac, low dose, and not many doctors will tell you this, but you can take it intermittently.

Please stop making definitive statements. It's fine to say that there isn't a known mechanism that you're aware of, however the body is a complex web of feedback loops, regulatory mechanisms, and metabolic cascades which we are far from understanding with great precision, so to the OPs question, there could easily be some sort of affect we're unaware of. Additionally there are a lot more hormones than testosterone, and the affect of hormones is partially dependent on enzymes, receptor binding strength, and lots of other things. We don't even know how to predict in advance who will respond well to nandrolone, DHT related compounds, or progestin-like compounds, so SSRIs could very well have many poorly understood affects that present as something that could be perceived as "hormonal". Amidwesterndoctor on substack recently did a review of the issues with SSRIs which is worth a look for clues.
