Can GLP-1 Agonists reverse hypogonadism when metabolic syndrome markers are present?

In my never ending quest to try and find some way to reverse my low testosterone I stumbled on some interesting studies about these popular peptides.

It seems that for men, taking these class of peptides can actually improve total testosterone perhaps by the way of increasing insulin resistance and increasing SHBG.

In my case I had bloodwork that would have originally pointed to some sort of metabolic syndrome despite working out 4-5 days week, maintaining a healthy weight, sleeping well, etc. My Testosterone fluctuated between 365-265 on my blood tests, my SHBG was <20, lipids were going up, glucose was trending up.

Currently on TRT to resolve those issues, but obviously that comes with a cost of shutting down your HTPA. Has anyone switched off of TRT to one of these peptides and saw improvements in their total testosterone? I would be happy if I could at least get mid range levels like 500-600.

I see there’s also some theories that low SHBG correlates with early onset baldness. I assume because it binds to DHT highly and without it DHT is free within the blood. I know these drugs aren’t magic but if they can bring things back in line it might help with the hair issues too, just wishful thinking.

Several things:

- The GLP-1 agonists induce under-eating (among other known and unknown things) which should be very negative for T
- I think you meant to say increases insulin sensitivity, but intermittent fasting (without under-eating) also does this.
- If you go to failure on your sets (especially working out 4-5 days per week), that could cause systemic over-training which would lower T
- Under-eating in general will lower T
- Did you try clomid or enclomiphene before hopping on TRT?
- What symptoms of low T are your trying to resolve? Other hormones like thyroid could be part of the issue.

Definitely meant sensitivity, whoops. Myself I was on the thinner side like 175-185 and 6’1” and I never tracked my calories, so it’s possible I was under eating and over training. I tried Enclomiphene but stopped about 6 weeks in due to vision problems and strange headaches that felt like they were coming from behind my eye sockets. Mostly it was ED issues, but towards the end it was fatigue and in the gym I was getting weaker and my body was becoming more fat and less muscular even with a more focused diet. This was all over a 5 year period from 23-28 before I started TRT. Did some sleep apnea tests as well. I recently got my free T4 checked on TRT but the PCP refused to check free T3 so I’ll be getting that checked later out of pocket. TSH and T4 were both normal

If these peptides only work via weight loss I’m not sure how much impact they could have. Today I’m 185 but leaner than pre-TRT. To me this is a comfortable weight for my body, I’d probably look sickly under 175.

However it is odd that the study Nelson posted showed Testosterone increases across the board
