Cialis muscle pain

I have some hamstring pain after taking cialis. I'm reading that the muscle pain is related to cialis blocking an enzyme in skeletal muscle.

Does this mean that the muscles are compromised during this time and therefore more prone to damage? Or is the enzyme-blockage unrelated to the actual physical condition of the muscle?

Even if they are unrelated, can exercise prolong the enzyme-blockage?

this is complex and nobody truly understands it. hamstring pain could be related to your back which cialis works on by inhibiting pde5 and be secondary due to the sciatic nerve being triggered. wild guess. i used to have sciatic flareups with cialis, although since dealing with those did not have them any longer (long story)

Nelson Vergel has mentioned before that Cialis can cause lower back pain, but then so can TRT. He has recommended that if you do get lower back pain and especially vision problems, then you need to lower your dosage.

I believe Cialis gives me lower back pains. After my morning workout my back is 100% again and good to go.

Couldn’t it just be your bed be contributing to the lower back pain and you getting up and working out is correcting the problem.

I’ve been sleeping on a Tempur-pedic for 21 years.

you can also try Avanafil which is highly specific to cells in the penis not the back. drawback is price and short half life if thats an issue. maybe some of the indian pharmacies have it cheap

Ok, so this is what I’m getting at. This is nerve pain. This is mis-signaling.

So let’s say I ignore the pain and do leg curls like usual, which doesn’t usually cause DOMS. Will the current pain disappear once the drug leaves my system, or will I possibly have DOMS because I worked the muscle while experiencing this drug-induced pain?

Anyone have any ideas? Of course it’s safest to rest, but I have been missing too many days.

I would definitely NOT rest, unless there is an acute injury. when i delt with this in the past this would leave within 24-48h. very rarely i still experience mild nerve pain when i take 10-20mg cialis which I dont pay attention to tbh.

I had horrible lower back spams on Cialis at any dose.

Cialis (tadalafil) can indeed cause back pain as a side effect in some users. The mechanism behind this side effect is not fully understood, but there are some theories:

## Mechanism of Cialis-Induced Back Pain

The back pain associated with Cialis use is thought to be related to the drug's effects on smooth muscle tissue[1][6]. Specifically:

1. **PDE11 Inhibition**: Cialis has a greater affinity for phosphodiesterase 11 (PDE11) compared to other PDE5 inhibitors like Viagra or Levitra. This increased PDE11 inhibition is believed to be the likely explanation for the higher incidence of back pain and myalgia seen with Cialis[5].

2. **Smooth Muscle Effects**: The pain is characterized by diffuse bilateral discomfort in the lower lumbar, gluteal, thigh, or thoracolumbar muscular areas. This suggests that Cialis may affect smooth muscle tissue in these regions[6].

3. **Timing**: Back pain typically occurs 12 to 24 hours after dosing and usually resolves within 48 hours[6]. This delayed onset suggests that the mechanism may be related to the drug's metabolites or downstream effects rather than immediate action.

## Characteristics of Cialis-Induced Back Pain

- **Prevalence**: Approximately 3-6% of men who take Cialis experience back pain[4].
- **Severity**: The pain is generally reported as mild to moderate, though severe cases occur in less than 5% of reports[6].
- **Duration**: It typically resolves without medical treatment within 48 hours[6].
- **Exacerbating Factors**: The pain is often exacerbated by recumbency (lying down)[6].

## Management

In most cases, the back pain resolves on its own. However, when treatment is necessary:

- Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or NSAIDs are usually effective[6].
- In rare cases, mild narcotic pain relievers may be used[6].
- Only about 0.5% of users discontinue Cialis due to back pain[6].

It's important to note that while the exact mechanism remains unclear, the back pain associated with Cialis use is not linked to any significant underlying pathology based on diagnostic testing[6]. If you experience persistent or severe back pain while using Cialis, it's advisable to consult with your healthcare provider.

I take 5-10mg generic Cialis per day every day, and for me it's hydration related. I find if/when I don't hit my daily water intake goals (160 ounces per day minimum) I notice tadalafil seems to trigger back/leg pains more like clockwork. Also a night out drinking beer and cocktails can flare it as well. Upon a new day if I hydrate well, it is usually a non issue. Personally these pains have never been bad enough where I did not want to exercise with them, whether that is lifting or cardio (love me some elliptical) or stretching. ** Edit to add but I notice these pains are completely gone when I take a 30 day break from Tadalafil (which I do twice a year) so I do know that is the root cause.

AI Overview
Cialis (tadalafil) can cause back pain for a number of reasons, including:
Enzyme blocking: Cialis blocks an enzyme in skeletal muscle, which can lead to back pain.
  • PDE11 affinity: Cialis may have a higher affinity for PDE11 than other PDE5 inhibitors, which could lead to more back pain.
  • Phosphodiesterase 5 inhibition: Back pain and muscle pain may be a general effect of phosphodiesterase 5 inhibition

I just started on a combination of tadalafil-vardenafil 2.5mg qd. One of the very common side effects is headache (due to the vasodilatory effect). On day 3, I started experiencing intermittent bouts of ice pick headaches on the left temporal side of my skull which only lasted for 10 min. then stopped. I hear headaches will eventually stop after a week of usage. I just don't know if the PDE-5s are the cause when it's such a small dose.

Anyone know?

I am only one person, but I had a bottle of brand name Levitra (Varedenafil) last year and there were two things I could count on when taking any amounts of Vardenafil. A very nice strong few hour erection. YAY! But unfortunately also ice pick headaches that made me almost want to vomit. NOT YAY! Mine would not subside as fast as yours are they lasted a few hours and were just not worth it.

Since the erections were so strong my take is that the vasodilation of the Levitra was simply greater than most of the others I've taken, and the blood was flowing too strong to not only my head downstairs but my head upstairs as well, causing head rush aches. I can't say if it was because it was NOT generic (true Levitra - I do believe pharma brand name is better despite all the "generics are the same" hive) or if it's the chemichal makeup of Vardenafil overall because I never wanted to try it again (even generic).

These days part of my daily regimen is 5 sometimes 10mg a day of Tadalafil a day and it does the trick for me in and out of the bedroom (the usual reported good stuff better pumps when lifting, better overall cardio health, better erections and sex) with little sides (some minor back twings here and there if I don't hydrate properly). If you can possibly eliminate one of the ingredients and see how you react/feel (take just tadalafil for a week if you can and see how you feel).

Did you try taking (more) magnesium?
I have no scientific explanation to offer and won't write lengthy hypotheses like others do.
