The benign enlargement of the prostate gland is common in men as they age and it sometimes causes lower urinary tract symptoms. There is a panoply of options, medicinal and surgical, for treating BPH to alleviate these symptoms, but not every medication or surgical option works in every person's case, and most of the options have the potential to cause side effects. One benefit of the medicinal options is that the side effects are typically reversible. Here, medical oncologist Mark Scholz, MD, discusses the use of Cialis--which is popularly known for treating erectile dysfunction but has been getting attention for its potential to treat BPH in some men--as a relatively innocuous option for men to try if they are experiencing these symptoms.
