The study referred to in the article talks about glycation, which is the binding of sugar to proteins in the body, causing them to not function properly. Glycation is caused by abnormally high blood sugar levels, which in turn is caused by Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) or pre-diabetes. The association between T2D and Alzheimer's has been known for a while. HbA1c is the most used measure of blood sugar levels and should be included in your regular blood work.
