Martin Miner, MD, is the co-director of the Men’s Health Center at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, and a clinical professor of family medicine and urology at Brown University. Here, PCRI's resident moderator, Mark Moyad, MD, MPH, asks Dr. Miner about "semaglutide," a medication used to facilitate weight loss. He asks if it is really the game-changer it is hyped up to be and how it compares to weight loss medications that have been used in the past and even presently.

Martin Miner:

*this is the only drug when I was going through in the talk though you saw those changes in obesity in these placebo-controlled trials after one year was less than 6% with bariatric surgery you can achieve between 15 and 18% weight loss of body mass over a year to a year and a half with these medications you can now achieve that same weight loss as bariatric surgery with the medication and maintain it
