Will clomid increase my estrogen. {I've researched & see conflicting things that it raises E2 but it is also an estrogen blocker?}

Dont know if my estrogen level is high enough for this to be a concern?

Clomid can/will raise your estradiol. It is, in no way, an estrogen blocker.

One does not take Clomid to control estradiol. Clomid occupies the receptors as a weak estrogen, not as a blocker. One does not take Clomid simultaneously with exogenous testosterone, they work in opposition to one another. If you are considering a restart protocol utilizing Clomid your E2 will increase. If you are beginning a protocol,with exogenous testosterone, you will not take Clomid.

An excellent overview.

Thanks! And yes a restart is what is being talked about. My E2 wasnt out of range so I didnt know if it would be a concern.

By the way --The doctor did write me a script for 50mg clomid but only because the that is the smallest FDA dose allowed. She wants to do 50mg 3x per week but only used the female reference range as an indicator as what it was used. I think what I will do is split the pill in half and do 25mg 3x per week and check #s again in 6 weeks. Im still on the fence as she said that this is looking to be a short-term treatment.

I am leaning towards the 25mg dosage 3x per week

With all due respect...you need to be "leaning" towards a doctor that knows what the hell they're doing, because it sounds like your doctor doesn't, and you're just guessing on a dosage. Let's call a spade a spade...you don't know what you're doing. I mean, you're already changing the dosage that you doctor prescribed before you even start the protocol!

Do yourself a huge favor and call Defy. Dr. Saya and Dr. Crisler have done a lot of restarts using Clomid, and they know how to properly dose it, and titrate you off of it at the end of a restart protocol.

Please seek competent medical counsel.

Restarts are tricky protocols. They take time. They take patience. It is the nature of the process that men following them tend, for a period of time, to feel worse before they start of feel better. It isn't something you can try for six weeks, at a dose below what was prescribed for you, and hope to see results.

For the most part not really. I've had to be super proactive in this manner. I was the one who suggested clomid & to recheck my thyroid panels as well as estradiol & cortisol. My SHBG actually lowered since last test but test is still low. I know clomid raises SHBG but if it helps to bring my test up.... Also the thyroid meds might resolve some of my hypothyroid issues which can help with test.

It's kind of a lot to deal with. I am also getting my varicocele checked on @ end of May. Just a waiting game w/ not so great management. Plus work and things going on in my life. I like it thought! Like I said my low T doesnt affect my work, mood, etc. It's more sexual + body composition related.

It is worrying undertaking a restart with an uninformed doctor. I applaud your proactive approach, we all have to assume ultimate responsibility for our health, but at your age, initiating treatment, an experienced doctor can make the difference in the success or failure of your efforts.

Yeah - shes not totally uninformed but relatively. It's tough because a) its all covered by insurance b) wait times are ridiculous c) im not rich which leads to a. No one good seems to be from New ENgland regarding this. I could also stand to lose some bodyfat + put on some muscle. I think a lot of this was caused thru a bout w/ homesick,cultureshock etc 2 years ago. As well as about 3 years of an unhealthy relationship w/ food trying to loose weight{I mentioned I used to be 250}

Again, you are to be commended for the effort you are making to improve your health. We are our own advocates. But...why not spend some up-front money and have a discussion with the doctors at Defy Medical? Even if it's only to have an in-depth, comprehensive evaluation? Your health, is worth, how much?

I'm definitely mulling that option. I'm just trying to get shit done & fix this problem.

Things can get worse, much worse, if errors are made at the beginning of the journey. You probably have all the lab results, or most of them, that Defy requires. I'd at least give them a call and sort out what it might cost you.

Yeah its a good point. I called them on the phone & talked. It would really just some more bloodwork +$250. The problem IMO is a) not going thru insurance which I pay for to get whatever meds I need and b) time.

Also, clomid is pretty low risk from what i hear correct?

All medicine comes with risks. Hormonal issues are particularly challenging. Why not spend some up-front money with Defy? Let a local doctor then pick up the protocol they suggest. They regularly offer consultations/second opinions. As for time, a few weeks more will not make a difference if it's done right.
