Insulin resistance

guys what labs should I have done to check my sugar and insulin levels? My fasting glucose test usually comes back in the upper limits. Thanks!

The CMP test shows your glucose.

The NMR Lipid test shows lipid particles (important) and an insulin resistance profile.

Measuring insulin is very erratic.

Getting a glucose tolerance test can determine if you are pre-diabetic. TRT, Metformin and reduction in simple carbs (plus exercise and/or weight loss) can improve insulin sensitivity.

The hbA1C also called just "A1c", is a standard test that shows average blood glucose levels over the previous 30 to 90 days. It is used to gauge how well blood sugars are being controlled.

Fasting blood glucose is a snapshot in time, while a1c is a running average.

Yep, insulin resistance was the main reason for me looking into TRT. TRT has greatly improved my A1c (from pre-diabetes range of 6.4 in Jan of this year). I started TRT in March, my 6 weeks labs in May showed my A1c down to 6.1, then by week 13 in July my A1c had reduced down to 5.7. I added Metformin, I had labs drawn again at week 23, it doesn't appear Metformin has done much regarding my A1c, my A1c was still at 5.8 at week 23 which included 6 weeks use of Metformin. Metformin has other anti-aging properties, so at this point I think I will keep it in my regimen.
