Initial blood work need Thyroid Panel, DHT and Prolactin for my first tests?

Before my consultation and my intial blood work or Comprehensive Hormone and Wellness Lab Panel for Men (Initial)

It was suggested that I get more tests for more money. I was told it's better to have these to be sure. I was confused as the costs were rising.

I was suggested that it would be good to get DHT and Prolactin and Thyroid. As Thyroid was going to be over $200 I decided to wait.

I did add the DHT and Prolactin which was about another $85. But decided to not do the Thyroid tests as I was not prepared for the extra $200+ cost.

I was told that if anything was off they would know by the initial blood work to order a Thyroid.

But also I couldn't complain that I wasn't offered the option the first time. This confused me.

Is that how it works. I was confused by not taking these other tests as the blood test costs were going to be over $500 which I wasn't prepared for.

Did I do the right thing? I don't want to be cheap or throw money away for tests I don't need at this time.

I don’t understand why you would test DHT and prolactin before your thyroid. The thyroid is called the “master gland” for a reason. The first tests anyone should take is a full thyroid panel and a total testosterone test. Only after those should you order additional tests if something seems amiss.

That's good to know. I prepaid for the tests but did not go to Labcorp for the draw yet. Should I have tested for Thyroid the first time? Or waited for that too on the first draw?
