Good starting TRT protocol?

Starting TRT next Monday. Men’s health clinic nurse is recommending a starting dosage of 220mg of testosterone cypionate injected once a week. They will do the injections in their office. I’d rather do the injections at home but seemingly to have it covered by insurance they want to do it in office. After one month they want to check blood work. He said it takes a few weeks for the body to react.

Not wanting too much of a high or low I asked if we could spit the injections to twice a week. He said for the first month to keep it once a week. Wanting to maintain fertility I asked to add HCG. Again he said after one month we could revisit this idea.

Does this seem like a reasonable starting protocol and blood check timeframe? My background: 34 y/o, 6'3", 200lb, 10%bf, low total T and high SHBG

I think 52 office visit per year is unreasonable, like you don't mary the first women you meet, you look around for the one that best fits your needs.

You're a grown man and you should be treated as such. These clinics like to charge for administering the injections, it's more about their benefit because they will charge your insurance company a fee and is inconvenient for you.

It's going to take longer than a few weeks to adjust your protocol to work for you, but if this clinics forces weekly office visits on everyone, I imagine they don't understand how to truly optimise their patients and then this is going to turn into a long ordeal for you.

It's a possibility you may feel a crash midweek and will require two injections per week, if this turns out to be the case, then you life just got more complicated needing to visit this clinic twice weekly. Having insurance in the loop almost always seems to cause some sort of fiasco you are forced to deal with, it's like having a headache, you have to deal with it.

The 220mg week is a little high, most end up somewhere around 100-160mg weekly. You may spend the next couple months dialing in your TRT protocol.

220mg to start trt is insane and you most likely will have numerous side effects at that dose. I’ve never had any problems with injectable testosterone with insurance. You can go to your local urologist or md and do your own injections. You should be starting in the 100mg per week range with testosterone only. Just my two cents
