A close friend who is 62 years old had the Rezum procedure. He said he is peeing like a 16 year old ! He said his stream is MUCH stronger. He is still retaining urine because his bladder is stretched due to him waiting too long to address his BPH issues. That said, he is extremely happy with the results.
There is also aquablation but I dont know much about it.

What were the symptoms that prompted him to have this procedure?

His symptoms were a weak urin stream , frequent urination and also not fully emptying his bladder. his bladder is permanantly stretched because he waited too long to get bph treatment.
A WEAK urine stream is a huge sign that you have prostate issues even if a Dr says your prostate isnt very large. the trick is to treat it early opposed to waiting and then doing damage to your bladder and ultimately the kidneys.
He was actually on 5 mg per day of finasteride ( proscar) for 3 years and it didnt help much. However, he didnt experience any sexual side effects and thats with 5 mgs for 3 years. Not sure if he is still taking it but he swears by the results of Rezum.
Because of his great results from the Rezum procedure, and his prostate was very large, Im no longer afraid of bph. Not to mention the newer aquablation.

Thank you for the detailed response. I have often wondered if the Rezum procedure would be beneficial to someone with BPH who needs to urinate frequently but has no fluid retention after voiding.

i may have retained urine once or twice at my uro but that was more to do with drinking coffee( i think). I mostly fully empty.
my issue is a weaker stream and after i go, i sometimes feel like i have a tad left and then end up going again in about 15 minutes.
i may get the Rezum done just to get a strong stream again and prevent my bladder or kidneys from being damaged.
the aquablation and uro life look good but aquablation and Rezum look to be the best and longest lasting with no sexual side effects.

I think that reducing the prostate surrounding and restricting the urethra will help with flow but that would be about it. If you have no urine retention then how does the Rezum procedure help your bladder? I would think that urine retention is what causes the bladder to become enlarged and stretched out. ... no urine retention ... no stretching or bladder enlargement, eh? Maybe I just don't get it.

Doesn't Viagra/ Cialis treat this?

I have been on 5mg of tadalafil for several years for BPH. It has helped more than Flomax or any other medication I have tried for BPH; especially Finasteride which almost rendered my impotent for life!! I have never fully recovered from the adverse effects of that horrible drug.

I also use 4mg of Terazosin with the tadalafil. The two of these help to relax the bladder making it easier to urinate. And of course the sides effects of the tadalafil are an added bonus.

My PCP has advised me to put off any prostate surgery as long as possible. Revisions to these procedures is common place so many people will have to have it done again after a number years. Something to keep in mind.

Of course, everyone is different!

Every man should avoid finasteride at all costs!
We have enough endocrine disrupting chemicals in the environment. We don’t need to be intentionally putting them in our bodies and then claim to be living a healthy lifestyle.

Men who take Finasteride care more about their hair, then they care about their health.

its pretty much as they advertise, peeing is more frequent and for me urgent for a month or so , it takes a few months to get full benefit, catheter for a week which I hated, no bike riding for 6 weeks, general anaesthetic gives constipation for 3-5 days, otherwise good, sex the same no incontinence, seems less cum but may be unrelated. I researched all the other treatments and Rezum is least sides, the others like turp allegidly give better peeing results but its like taking a chainsaw to it , more sides you dont want. I had Rezum 2 years ago and pleased I did it , could always have bigger pees and less frequent but got to balance that with less/no sides. There is a recent one out with water ablation or something, I dont know so much about it but heard its good?

Any post surgery pain? How long after surgery before you were able to have sex? How about weight lifting, any restrictions?

it was a bit sensitive if I remember for a week or two, cant remember re sex, wasnt a issue though, weights, told to be careful with squats, leg press etc for 6 weeks , like bike,. there is a little blood in urine for a while from time to time but no big deal, compared to the other prostate ops its a breeze
