Doxazosin restored my morning erections

Yes, this is exactly why it works. It works for me in this same manner. I've always been too norepinephrine dominate and any drug, like Doxazosin, improves erection quality (in terms of maintaining them in my case). However the side effects are not tolerable for me.

I also tried Atomoxetine (Strattera) and another one I can't remember the name of for blocking norepinephrine, and they also improve erections. However each of these give terrible side effects as well (feel dead all day long, bags under the eyes and more).

In my case I have found either metformin or berberine work just as well as doxazosin with many other added benefits. They have improved erections as much or more than dox/nor blockers. I believe I have insulin resistance (have a little fatty liver, had high uric acid, never had good blood sugar control, etc) which is implicated in endothelial dysfunction and vasoconstriction. It seems these agents protects against endothelial dysfunction, lower blood pressure and relax the artery walls.

My two cents for what it's worth :)

What sides you experiencing with Doxa?

What sides you experiencing with Doxa?
Odds are it is like most bp meds , but if you keep the dose low at 1-2mg a day. They should be minimal. Odds are you get headaches and dizziness will likely be the main two. Im sure these will subside after a few weeks like most meds. Dox can be dosed up to 16mg a day. So 1-2mg is extremely low dose

Can anyone who's taken Dox or knows a lot about it tell me if weight gain is a common S/E? I'm interested in low-dose referenced here. Thanks.

Those interested in this topic should do an internet search for the thread "Ultimate adrenergic control of erections" for an extremely detailed and lengthy discussion of all the issues mentioned here and many more. I think this is a wildly underappreciated set of topics, with most people over-focusing on the hormonal and NO side of the equation and under- focusing on the norepinephrine/sympathetic nervous system side of the equation. I have read through that whole thread several times and learn new things each time.

Doxazosin (Cardura) does not help ED symptoms. Many BP meds dilate blood vessels and some can cause ED symptoms. If you have generalized anxiety, which I believe you mentioned, that for sure can cause ED just like depression can. Cialis 5mg daily is marketed for ED but IMO it frequently doesn’t work because the dose is so low. I tried it without success. I then started taking cialis 20mg daily and problem solved completely. I’m also on TRT. Make sure that your estradiol (E2) is in a good range (typically 20 to 30 pg/ml but preferably 25 to 30). E2 less than 20 can definitely cause ED same as low T can.

Yeah, you're right...that's why one of the top men's Physician's in the country posting on this thread is complete disagreement with you... Doxazosin has been proven off label to have a significant effect on improved ED coupled with PDE5i's...simple fact.

Is that thread archived anywhere? It only seems to linked to the sadly defunct ATM forum as far as I can tell.

I just got a script from my doctor , told him I had mild bph symptoms so he gave me 2mg once daily. Just took my first dose today only half a tablet though(he told me 1mg first week). side effect so far are headache and feeling like my nose is throbbing....lol. I know this as well but he said it will take a 1-3 weeks for side effects to go away. It did drop my bp a little as well. I will report back in a week.

Only sides I’ve noticed are slightly less powerful orgasms and lack of urgency to urinate (not necessarily a bad thing, but can be if you wait too long).
I have a supply of Doxazosin and have tried to go on it a few times, but have gone off each time due to se of pounding heartbeat. This appears to be not uncommon. Each time I gave it quite a few days (one time more than two weeks) to see if se would reduce/subside, but it never did. It was especially troubling at night, when I'd lie in bed and feel my heart beating very powerfully, no matter how long I lay still. It was quite disconcerting, and in the end I simply couldn't tolerate it any longer.

And any effect on erection quality from the addition of Doxazosin wasn't remarkable (I'm already on other components of Gene's stack, i.e., 5mg. tadalafil and 3 gms citrulline bid, and erection quality is acceptable, just not optimal). Perhaps if there had been some obviously significant improvement I might have tried to tough it out.

Just an update to my initial post. With my doctor’s counsel we’ve upped to 3mg daily as I have experienced no meaningful side effects, BP is under control and I’m trying to see if there is dose-specific improvement to my situation.

The other thing I’d add is there seems to be a very mild (but noticeable) anti-anxiety effect. It’s not a “mental” relaxation effect that you’d get with say a benzo, but rather a physical effect that seems to keep me from tripping into “fight or flight mode” as easily during the day.

SO speaking of Alpha 1 and 2 blockers, Yohimbine is available OTC for the Alpha2, but what about the Alpha1...is there anything OTC that we can substitute for the Doxazosin?
