DHEA Level

I recently just got blood work done with Defy. My DHEA came back at 294.8 ug/dl range is from (138-475).
My doctor from Defy said since I am 26 my levels should be higher and told me to supplement 40mg everyday. Is that too high and does any body think I should even supplement with DHEA?

DHEA is one of those supplements that seem to really help some people, and for others does nothing that they can feel, or even raises E2 and causes issues that way. The only way to know for sure how your body responds would be to take the recommended dose for 5-6 weeks and see if you feel better or not.

I personally use DHEA to help stop cortisol peaking at nighttime so that I can sleep better. Aside from that I personally do not feel anything from it, but we all react differently.

Hi JayLay congrats on becoming a Defy patient. Post up your bloods I'd love to see them. On your question I am 64 and Defy wants my DHEA at 350 so I supplement.
25 gets me to 254 and 50 gets me to 330. I am OK with 330 it is close enough. I don't like taking DHEA I get a cafeine buzz from it and can't fall asleep. But my doctor says take it and no one on this site knows more than my doctor.........Oh wait my doctor posts on this site...haha never mind ;-)

Feeling lost - I have my latest blood posted already just look at my latest post. What was you’re dhea level before starting supplementing with dhea? And if my dhea is 295 right now where do you think taking 50 mg everyday will get me to? Do for days since I am 26 I should be in the 500’s for dhea

There is no way of telling what your adsorbtion rate will be. I would just take what they prescribed and wait for new bloods. Just don't flip flop areound changing things all the time or you will never stabilize. Hormones take forever to balance out. Everything you eat everything you do exersize sex messes with them.

Your free testosterone needs boosting and high(ish) DHEA levels can accomplish that. Physiologic DHEA levels for young males can go well into the 500's.

Feelinglost - have you tried taking the DHEA in the morning instead of night? If not, go ahead and try it as it seems to give you stimulatory effects, whereas for many it can help sleep at night.

Hi Doc. I am taking in the morning after breakfast and that's working fine. Thank you for the suggestion.

My defy doctor I consulted with today actually said my free testosterone is very good at 22.range is 9.3-25. The problem is my shbg is sky high over the reference range. I do notice though that when I take dhea I just feel better overall . Does DHEA lower SHBG? Thanks

Higher SHBG always means lower (relatively speaking) free testosterone. The test is just a snapshot and the average free testosterone levels for a guy with higher SHBG will always be lower than a comparable guy with a lower SHBG.
