Acoustic Shock Waves: Does This Work to Improve ED?

I have been seeing Acoustic Shock Waves being touted as a way to remove plaque on small veins in the penis. If you search on Youtube you will find a number of doctors and clinics that offer this service. As an engineer this seems to me as a focused ultrasonic. Ultrasound is from 20kHZ to somewhere in the Gigahertz range. Not sure what frequency the Acoustic Shock Wave works on but there are hand held devices. Anyone have history with this and if so what is your opinion? My concern is that if it removes plaque off your small veins in the penis what happens when it makes it to the heart?

I read that thread and it provides no evidence that this technology works. What is lacking is a study of men that use the device and those that don't. I think it either works or there is a placebo effect. I for one don't wish to spend close to 800 bucks for their device unless there is more evidence it works. Love to hear if anyone on this forum has tried this technology. Antidotal comments isn't fact it is opinion. Anyone used this device or been to a doctor that uses this? Love to see someone like Doctor Saya to comment. If it works I would certainly buy one.

Check the other thread on here posted, I think by @Ark11 . I'm sure he could confirm that anyone with confirmed by Doppler ultrasound profound venous leakage, that all the placebo effect impact in the world is not going to get you an erection where there were none previously.

I had 6 sessions of Acoustic Shock Therapy prior to my TRT treatment and I can honestly say that it did ABSOULTY nothing for me. $1800 pretty much thrown to the wind but I knew their was a risk that it would do anything at all. At least I can say I tried.

What symptoms were you experiencing prior to treatment? What machine was used? Did TRT or other therapy give you any results?

D-You just brought up a great point; prior to beginning TRT, my Libido was NON existent and I had some false hopes that the AST would do something for me.....but it didn't. It not fair for me to totally discount the treatment since my T was way low. TRT has given me the results that I was looking for. Just to put it into perspective; My Total T prior to TRT was 140. After 1 month I am at almost 700. HUGE Difference all around.

IPRMAN - thanks for your input on the shock therapy. Glad to hear TRT has been helping. Can you share your TRT protocol- cream or injections? How many times a week, etc....

Absolutely! I am currently taking 60mg Cypionate injections every 3 days. Its seems to be working pretty good as my strength and muscularity have all improved. I wake every morning with an erection which is also a good thing:) I am injecting SUB Q which I know is a topic of discussion on these boards. Sub Q does NOT hurt at all and seem to work just fine for me. I would have no problem going IM if it would provide even better results. May something to look forward to. I get my blood checked every 3 months and will continue to do so indefinably. Discount Labs make it so easy for me to get my blood draw and then the results are sent directly to me and my Urologist.

Coop-Are you on a TRT protocol? If so please let me know the details and most importantly, are you stratified with the treatment.

Guys I found this study which 15 of 20 male patients improved significantly in erections. This was a double blind study. Details in the article.

There are other studies below the first one I mentioned. This study was back in April 2013. This is the type of evidence that I was seeking. It appears from this article and others I have scanned that the success rate is pretty high but not 100%. IPRMan2005 was not successful but I now think I will try the Phoenix device here in the next month or so and report back. I hope Nelson is OK with me posting this site and it is a National Institute of Health reference I got this from.

Conflict of interest statement: Professor Y. Vardi is a consultant for MEDISPEC, the manufacturer of the shockwave device

There are many other studies after this one and unless you are totally dishonest you can't cook the books on a double blind experiment. Look at the other studies which were below this one. It isn't a single source that is presented by the NIH article.

I’m not trying to argue with you, I just pointing out, the conflict of interest.

Skateboard, I have tried it spend a lot of $$$$ over a year & 1/2 of treatments, I had a few of those P-shots and close to a dozen sessions, Maybe it will work for You Did nothing for Me But empty promise's, Save Your Money...

Being one that has been through the PRP as well as the shockwave therapy, I can tell you first hand to save your money. The PRP does help a bit, but it's not "earth shattering". The shockwave therapy is a joke...went through a 12 session course of it and it didn't do jack squat for me (other than drain my wallet).

Can you share the device used and the clinic where you were treated?

Can't quite recall the exact device. It was a stand up unit with a shockwave wand connected by an electrical cord. Had a pretty fancy display for adjusting the unit. The clinic? Won't mention the name for obvious reasons, but Google "shockwave therapy Dallas" to narrow it down.

Totally true. Shockwave is a waste of money

Beyond Testosterone Book by Nelson Vergel
My take, and it is subjective but tempered with review of what studies there are, is if it has any positive effect, it would take more than one-shot treatment. In most cases. Even if it was twelve sessions. Some variability in effectiveness was indicated in one paper with how frequent the sessions were or interval between each treatment. Supposedly, it promotes stem cell proliferation for the growth of new blood vessels. Elsewhere in the body, it takes weeks, months to generate collateral circulation. Frequency of the instrument and pulsed or not pulsed has varied effect also. So, that may account for difference in effectiveness in each case. Who knows. Anyway, I'm going to give it a go probably in another couple months. I can afford it and I'm just a walking human laboratory anyway, so what the heck.
