I am a 68-year old bodybuilder who was recently diagnosed with a high PSA reading (7), doubled from last year (3.1). The reading was taken after I was using 350mg of Test per week for 16 weeks, which is much higher than my doctor's prescription of 100-150/week. I did this without the doctor's knowledge, because I was under the impression that a higher level might be more beneficial to gaining larger mass during my workouts, based on what some bodybuilders told me was the rate they use. Now I regret that the use of the Test might have caused the inflammation of the prostate. Can anyone speak seriously about the chance that it is related to the higher level of test?

This is true, more testosterone does give you better muscle building ability, genetics will have the final say how much muscle you put on.

Too little or too much of anything isn't healthy. Taking massive amounts of Test comes with other risks, like thicker blood -> thicker blood, more pressure in the pipes.

Now I regret that the use of the Test might have caused the inflammation of the prostate. Can anyone speak seriously about the chance that it is related to the higher level of test?
Test may or may not be related to your prostate problems. It could just be a urinary tract infection.

Also your prostate may not functioning as efficiently as when you were younger, so excessive androgens can aggravate the prostate.

Having higher than normal levels will only speed up existing problems.
It doesn’t make problems with your prostate.
Same with cataracts, if you are going to get them testosterone just speeds up the growth

May I ask you to clarify what you said about "speed up existing problems" -- this may be interpreted that anyone with any condition is apt to experience a health disaster thru the use of Testosterone, and that the use of bodybuilding dosages is a mistake, yet we are being bombarded with images of guys who use extremely high dosages all the time in many forums. Maybe we can all talk about the use of Test as it relates to higher than normal levels and what the effect is on someone with compromised immune systems (i.e., HIV, among other conditions like diabetes, etc.). Maybe Test is contraindicated for most men who are even using it normally in that case.

If you have any existing medical problems like a cataract or a prostate that’s growing or a cancer that’s dormant by adding testosterone to your body it is more likely to speed up the growth.
If you are only at normal high levels it could be just sitting idle but start having your number at double high normal will make everything in your body grow
Eg : muscle growth on cycle
Hope that is easier for you to understand

A good example of speeding things up is gyno. Sone people can sit on trt with no problem then if they double the weekly amount they get gyno.

Thanks, I know that Gyno is something that a lot of guys will get but it's simple compared to Prostate Cancer, which can lead to some very debilitating consequences. I wish that this issue was better covered in this Forum, but for whatever reason, it seems to get ignored by the rest of the TRT community, who are probably only concerned with the way they look as opposed to the more serious consequence of Test causing the prostate to have to be removed or fried with radiation.

I hope you aren't insinuating that TRT causes prostate cancer. Recent studies show the opposite is true, that low Free T puts men at a 53% greater risk developing prostate cancer and more aggressive cases.

This study also showed Free T in the top 25% of the ranges prevented and in some cases delayed prostate cancer.

When I first asked a doctor for a blood test to see what’s happening with my testosterone he told me I would get prostate cancer if I did anything about fixing low testosterone. When I got my results under normal low I asked for a script for cancer. I changed doctors and the next one told me injections will give me prostate cancer but I should see her endo and go on gel.

I had already been on gel but because of my lifestyle gel is more of a pain in the ass than sticking a needle in my ass so I am still on injections and that doctor don’t want to even order blood tests for me. I’m always honest with the doctors about what I’m doing but the uneducated doctors won’t listen.

I got better information from my eye specialist when I went and seen them. The person asked about medication and I said I was on trt , they then said that’s why my cataracts are growing so fast. They explained to me how every works and I was very impressed with them. Most of the people I have seen about my eyes understand side affects of meditation better than the doctors.

If you have low testosterone you aren’t growing to your full potential.
That's not true, your at maximum risk at around 200 ng/dL per the saturation model. Once the prostate is fully saturated, your at maximum risk and this saturation occurs <300 ng/dL.

Ref Bhasin's study on older men (60-75 yrs) and graded testosterone dosing up to 600 mg/wk for 20 wks. JCEM 90:678, 2005, that will answer your questions relative to T and the prostate and muscle mass. If you were already taking 100 - 150 mg/wk, the androgen receptors in the prostate are saturated, going to 350 mg/wk is unlikely to change anything other than increase Hb/HCT and BP, maybe decrease HDL somewhat. The increase in PSA is likely due to something else other than T, either unrelated inflammation or prostate cancer. See a urologist that understands the relationship between T and the prostate, not the ongoing myths that everyone continues to pander. Get a DRE, recheck the PSA with free%, there are also newer and more specific/sensitive tests to check for PCa as well. Next option would be an MRI and see if there is anything there if the DRE is negative. If anything show up, an MRI guided biopsy. Just my non-medical two cents.

Trt only speeds up existing medical conditions/problems.
If you have low testosterone you aren’t growing to your full potential. Add testosterone and now you grow. And everything else grows except your nuts.
This is such bullshit advice, TRT does NOT make everything else and other conditions grow. Go read the study in Europe were they used excessive amounts of test to STOP prostate cancer. Even the protocol the US currently uses where they chemically castrate men to stop the cancer stops working and they need to switch protocols. This happens all the time. What possible proof do yo have that test alone speeds up other conditions you might have, there are side effects yes, but exaggerating other health problems is not one of them. Get a better doctor.

TRT didn't speed up my type 2 diabetes. TRT prevents and treats the diseases of aging in a way no drug can replicate.

TRT even improves the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Clearly @Gladiator is trolling. He's been a member here for over a year and no way is he that clueless.
