L carnitine question

I read on this forum about L carnitine and it´s benefits. However I am not a very atletic person and have some issues with Cholesterol and trigs. Anyway I just bought L-carnitine 1g (tartrate) including a low dose of vit E. In what way would I benefit from this supplement if I´m not a gym person? I read somewhere that L-carnitine can increase you red blood cell counts and that´s what make me afraid of (eventhough it was written that´s good thing due to increase of NO) ( I doubt that statement). I am hestating a bit to start this supplement since my red blood cells are on the upper side and I don´t wish to do donate blood.
I would like to have a faster metabolism and less fatigue.

How many gram would be enough for health benefit? Since this product is just a normal L-Carnitine shall I take just after the biggest meal?

Any input?

If you want the purest go with a brand like NOW which uses CARNIPURE...............manufactured by Lonza in Switzerland!

I used to dose 1 gram twice daily.....................definitely noticed a boost in energy, also tried acetyl l-carnitine at 2 grams thrice daily but must have been too high a dosage as it made me irritable/snappy felt as if I could gnaw through an excessively hairy leather snatch!

Tommy, There are stacks incorporating acetyl-L-carnitine (aka ALC, ALCAR) which are proposed for fatigue. There is more evidence for neuro-cog and mitochondrial benefit than for "fat burning"

I'd suggest beginning with 500mg ALC in the morning on an empty stomach. You may wish to try it in combination with alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) and other aminos. I would not worry about it boosting your RBC. It's very safe.

Beware of anecdotal claims such as theses, YMMV:

I buy ALCAR by the kilo from MyProtein (beware of price gouging, buy steep sales only). I believe I paid $10/kilo. Avoid the retail packaged compound mixtures unless you've got more $$ to burn than fat.

I'm not sure if it's any one supplement or synergism but I substantially reduced cholesterol, A1C and got all my markers in a healthy range back in November. Get you CBC,metabolic and lipid panels done at baseline then every 60 days to see what benefit if any you are personally getting..

I am perhaps more into fat burning but do mean that ALCAR beside that also inhence neuro-cog and mitochondrial benefits? Meaning killing two birds with one stone?

Ive been using a powder twice per day and I haven't noticed from one blood donation to the next that ALCAR is aggravating HCT/HGB or anything else.
