Iron/Ferritin Issues

Hi all,

for the last year or so ive been having issues related to iron. THis started by me having 4 phlebotomies over the space of a few months to reduce my haemocrit down from 56%

Since then Id been getting symptons of low ferritin like brain fog, extreme fatigue, shortness of breath and in particular, tinnitus

Id done the protocol found on this site on and off during this period with good results.

I started experiencing these symptons again last week and had a blood test but the results have really confused me

my iron and ferritin levels look ok (Ferritin looks great to say I'm on TRT, its never been that high) but UIBC is high and transferrin saturation low (which suggests iron deficency?) . I'm not sure how to interpret this?

thanks all

Transferritin saturation and ferritin are the only markers your should be looking at, because the others can change dramatically after eating something with iron.

Inflammation will drive up the ferritin level. Together with the lower end transferritin saturation level, I believe inflammation is driving up the ferritin level.

Some other markers they tested for that might be relevent (along with inflammation)

not sure what todo really!

thanks

Patients with high serum ferritin and low transferrin saturation (TSAT) levels could be considered as presenting with dysutilization of iron for erythropoiesis.
The dysutilization of iron for erythropoiesis is a state in which there is insufficient iron incorporation into erythroid precursors in the face of apparently adequate body iron stores
