The low HDL dilemma (lowest ever @ 39) - labs here.
As you can see, a dramatic decrease in total cholesterol and LDL-C on my standard lipid test from prior labs.
But why did my HDL sink along with the other lipid markers?
I check all the boxes for doing things to raise it (fish oil, niacin, olive oil, etc). What is suppressing it is the question.
Could it be supplemental pregnenolone and DHEA, both known to lower HDL? I take both to maintain youthful levels (50mg/day).
Studies showing DHEA suppressing HDL:

Studies showing DHEA suppressing HDL:
Effects on lipoprotein particles of long-term dehydroepiandrosterone in elderly men and women and testosterone in elderly men - PubMed
Long-term DHEA and testosterone had no significant effect on plasma lipoproteins in elderly men, but elderly women showed a lowering of the large HDL particles that may have potential adverse clinical implications.

Effects of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) supplementation on the lipid profile: A systematic review and dose-response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials - PubMed
Overall, supplementation with DHEA did not change circulating values of TC, LDL-C and TG, whereas it may decrease HDL-C levels. Further long-term RCTs are required to investigate the effects of DHEA particularly on major adverse cardiac events.
