I've been injecting every day for 2 years and I still have sleep issues. I've never tried any other protocol. Maybe my sleep would be worse on less frequent injections.

AndroGel is 1.6% testosterone. Compounded cream is usually 20% (sometimes 30%) testosterone. The amount you absorb from compounded cream applied to the scrotum is drastically more than AndroGel applied anywhere else.
