Alpha blocker and effects

So I been on 1mg of doxazosin for about 2 years. While on this I can say it improved EQ and flaccid. About 3 weeks ago my doc switch me to Flomax(Tamsulosin) to try, since I wanted to avoid the postural hypotension that never went away with the doxazosin. After 3 weeks I have noticed EQ is better on the Flomax and the orgasms are more forceful, also more sensitivity as well. I was nervous because I seen high reports of retrograde ejaculation. So far I have no bad side effect, 3 weeks should be enough build up of the med to notice benefits or side effect I would think. Has anyone else noticed or had positive effects of Flomax \ Tamsulosin?

I tried Dox as a possible EQ enhancer in January. I had some side effects like insomnia. It might have made my EQ worse. May try it again down the road. Glad you had some success with both meds.

I am 69 years old. Flomax almost rendered me impotent for life. I was on it for a few years and found it to be a horrible drug for treating my BPH. My PHP switched me to 5mg of tadalafil daily along with 4mg of Terazosin a couple of years ago. The issues that I was having with Flomax took awhile to subside but things have now returned to normal. I have had no noticeable side effects with Terazosin. I do have the usual side effects from tadalafil (stuffy nose and very slight headache) but otherwise these two drugs have helped my BPH symptoms tremendously. Also, keeping my progesterone in a more healthy range has helped two.

Download the IPSS-Int'l Prostate Symptom Score. Do it every now and then to see how you're doing. If it gets to the point of needing treatment, check out Urolift. I'm 75. Had mine last year. Easy, quick, no catheters, no surgery, effective and no sexual side effects. Might even be a bit better.

You got lucky. My neighbor ended up in the hospital after his Urolift. The doctor somehow nicked something in his urethra that wouldn't stop bleeding, which led to blood clots obstructing his flow. He was in a lot of pain bec he couldn't pee for many hours until the ER got him freed up. He eventually had to go back into surgery to repair the wound in his urethra.

I had Urolift done a month ago. I also would have had to go to the ER had I not had some disposable catheters at my house. I had some blood clots stuck in my urethra. clots so large that they were obstructing the flow of urine. Luckily I was able to self cath and get the clot to come out without having to go to the ER.

@Golfboy307 what dose of dox were you on? I could only do 1mg sometimes I just did .5mg. If I went any higher things deteriorated.

10mg Alfuzosin CR ftw, works synergistically with daily cialis, good combo.

Also: the use of terazosin/doxazosin/alfuzosin was associated with a 12% to 37% decrease in Parkinson disease risk compared with use of tamsulosin.

I was on the 1mg dose... I kept the bottle. May add it back at some point at a lower dose. My BP drug is Lisinopril so I have to be careful not to cause hypotension and pass out.

A serious 'Thank you' for the reference to that article. Parkisons disease is something on the road I have to be aware of. Very strong on both sides of the genetic road.

Some Meds have side effects sure, some are just bad studies. But even still other alpha blockers still have downsides depending on the study.

Nonselective ABs (terazosin, doxazosin, and alfuzosin) were significantly associated with an 8% higher risk for heart failure compared with selective ABs (silodosin and tamsulosin), even after controlling for hypertension, diabetes, and previous myocardial infarction.
